“ This place was next to our hotel. When I looked it up, the reviews were great. So we thought we'd give it a shot. The food was incredible. The service was outstanding. And the ambiance was very special. Our night was Sergio's last night with training wheels. Jose really didn't have to do much because Sergio totally has this!! He is a really great server. He was knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant, the makeup of the dishes, and the best options based on our preferences. This restaurant is lucky to have him on the team!! Our meal started with an unexpected treat of complimentary salmon croquettes from the chef. They were a nice surprise and very yummy bites. Apparently these little bites from the chef are a regular thing. Great concept!!! The restaurant concept is a blend of Asian and American influence. So we decided to have the waygu beef wontons to enjoy that fusion experience. Wow, they were spicy and delicious!!! My husband had the dry aged ribeye. It was cooked perfectly to his liking and incredibly flavorful. Sergio was great about describing exactly how the meat would be cooked. AND he independently picked up in the fact that my husband is on the picky side. He let us know about the infused butter and veal demi glaze. And then brought his butter and demi glaze on the side so he could decide if he wanted to actually use it on his steak. I decided on the filet mignon flight. I mean really, a flight of steak???!!! How cool is that??!!! I was able to try waygu filet mignon, prime filet mignon, AND Argentinian Angus filet mignon. I LOVED having this opportunity!! (I liked the prime best, Angus came in 2nd and waygu 3rd, but all were amazing!) This place is definitely in our top 10!!!! Sergio even happily accommodated an unusual request we had. He was truly eggsellent!! ”

“ Celebrated a friend's birthday dinner last night. We valeted which went well. It costs 15 dollars but easier than parking downtown in the area. The walk to the table felt like a sprint upstairs. The hostess seemed to be speed walking up the stairs and to the table. The overall staff was polite. Our waters stayed full. Wish our other drinks had been full a bit more often. We started with the Italian burrata and east coast oysters. Both good. The bread that came with it was great. The dinner rolls provided were good. However the butter was surprising considering it tasted like wasabi. I wasn't expecting that nor was I a fan. The scallops were tasty. The rainbow trout roe was a bit too much for my liking. I left most of it. The half chicken was tasty but of course awkward to eat off of the bone. As far as sides, the gnocchi were my favorite with the perfect crisp. Overall the feel was tastefully done. There was plenty of seating which some would be awkward since it seemed like after thought tables for large parties. I'd like to go back maybe for a cocktail. I am curious about what else there is to try. ”

“ After getting hitched at the courthouse, my new wife and our family and friends celebrated at Guard and Grace. It'd been a long time since I dined downtown, which has some hidden gems of great places to eat. G&G is one of them. With its modern decor and ample natural lighting, it has a vibe perfect for daytime or nighttime dining. The food was delicious. We ordered pretty much every dip on the appetizer menu, including the queso, spinach and artichoke, and salmon dips--all of them were fantastic, with the queso being our favorite. We also had the octopus, which had a delicious spicy kick to it. Everyone loved their entrees. My dad said his burger was the best he had ever had in a restaurant, and my duck melt was so rich and savory. All of the servings were very large, making for a hearty meal that was worth it's upscale price. The only dish I'd pass on is the gnocchi, which was too lightly sauced and bland, making for an odd choice for an a la carte side considering it didn't come with any protein. Our server Corey was so nice and funny. Once he heard we were celebrating our wedding, he helped us celebrate with champagne and delicious sweets. The triple chocolate cookies and sticky toffee cake were both amazing. We will definitely return to Guard and Grace for our anniversary, if not before. ”

“ Wow! The one thing that held me back from coming here is the fact that it's downtown. I hate dealing with parking, etc. I've so been missing out! This restaurant was amazing! From the service to the immaculate decor and ambiance not to mention the food - it was all top-notch! We ate family style and shared everything. The filet flight was delicious and cooked to perfection. The sides were huge portions. The brussels sprouts and mac & cheese paired perfectly with the steak. The sushi roll special and the crispy spicy tuna were surprisingly good being that this wasn't a sushi restaurant. Apparently, these special cookies are provided complementary during lunch, but we asked for them for our dessert and they made our dreams come true! The triple chocolate cookie was warm and juicy, and was topped with salt for that sweet and savory scrumptiousness. The service was impeccable as well. I will definitely come back here and sacrifice my frustration with downtown parking HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! ”

“ I came to guard and grace to attend a wedding reception recently. From the time we got inside of the second floor reception room, there were drinks flowing, and the service was great. Melanie was our server, and I would not be able to tell that this was her first time doing a party if she hadn't told me because she was absolutely fantastic. She kept on top of any requests, like to bring out children's meals before the adult meals come out, during appetizers. Speaking of appetizers, my favorite was the ahi tuna. It was delicious pieces of tuna on top of crispy rice. I could have had a whole tray of just those alone. The crab cakes were made with real crab, the beef tips when perfectly done and the Korean fried chicken had a great sauce to it. For dinner, I enjoyed the steak medium well, it was cooked perfectly, as well as the smashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese pasta dish. The lemonade drink was good as well. It reminded me of Brazilian lemonade like at Brazilian steakhouse. The customer service was fantastic, as they cleaned the table well and were quick and efficient. Overall, I would recommend Guard and Grace for a finer dining date night or if you wanna be out in the town in the downtown of Houston. ”

“ To celebrate Galentine's, my girls and I chose Guard and Grace to have dinner. I already had dinner at Joey's prior to joining them so I didn't eat. Therefore, this review is more so about the service, ambiance and how my friends rated their food. I got there right on time for the reservation and because I'm so adverse to valet, I asked the guys where else I could park and they directed me to the street parking right across the street. I parked and went in to meet my friends. The restaurant isn't a stand alone as it's in an office building of sorts so there's a large open space prior to getting to door. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with an ample amount of seating for patrons. There's also bar seating that's best suited for happy hour. Our server came over and provided us with menus and took our order. I got a mocktail and my friends got signature drinks from the menu. As for the food, they weren't wowed by it but the service was great. G&G makes for a great date night spot, girl's night out or a birthday dinner. ”

“ What an unexpected treat!! Visiting Houston for a work meeting and stumbled across this amazing Michelin star recommended, modern steakhouse. Keeping it light we ordered the Hearts of Romaine Cesar salad and oak fired carrots to start. Carrots were fire grilled and a tri-color variety served over a citrus-herbed yogurt sauce w/ toasted pistachio pieces. For the entree I ordered the surf n turf special with a petite filet and Alaskan Black Cod served atop seasoned Calabrian chili oil broccolini--one word for this dish....superb! My colleague ordered the 8oz Filet with crispy Brussels sprouts as the side. His knife cut through the steak like butter. Literally To round out our dining experience they serve a complimentary bite-sized triple chocolate sea salt cookie that is (no exaggeration) to die for. Served warm and nearly fell apart in my hand and melted in my mouth. Really loved the relaxed yet upscale environment of Guard and Grace that left me wanting to return. To try more of their incredible menu, experience warm hospitality, and indulge in culinary creativity of their food. Again, such a treat!! I will definitely be back. ”

“ I've had Guard & Grace bookmarked for awhile, so I was happy to be able to have dinner during HRW 2024. We were able to make a same day reservation online. Parking: They have valet, but I managed to find street parking nearby. It's downtown so there are various parking garages nearby if you can't find street parking or don't want to do the valet. Drinks: I started with a cocktail that was topped with Pop Rocks. I can't remember the name of it, but it was interesting. I also had a glass of a Red Blend with my steak and it was good. Appetizer: My date ordered the Braised Wagyu Beef Wontons even though it wasn't one of the options for the first course. I tried one and it was very good! We were also given a small portion of gnocchi which was compliments of the chef. This was also tasty! Bread and Butter - The bread was soft and I enjoyed the garlic and herb butter. 1st Course: Italian Burrata - I love Burrata, but this one was okay. It came with an eggplant caponata. There were a lot of flavors and textures going on and I felt like it actually took away from the Burrata. 2nd Course: Filet - I ordered it medium plus and it was really good. I enjoyed the sauce and the carrot garnish was a nice touch. Sides: The mashed Potatoes were very creamy and tasty. We also ordered broccolini. There was literally an ice cream scoop size of butter on it which wasn't needed at all! The broccolini had a wonderful char to it. 3rd Course: I tried a bite of my date's Sticky Toffee Cake and enjoyed it. I ordered the Texas Peach Tart. I enjoyed the shortbread cookie and peach slices. The charred marshmallow garnish was unique. Service: I don't know how to spell our server's name, but it was pronounced "E-fay." He was so nice and did a wonderful job! All of the staff that we interacted with were very nice and professional. Misc: If you need to use the bathroom, ask a staff member to take you through the kitchen short cut. It's a fun little detour and really does save time from having to walk all the way around the perimeter of the dining room to get to the bathroom. G&G is a nice option for downtown dining and I'm happy that I was able to "dine out and do good." ”
